READING COMPREHENSION ACTIVITY

Superhero Joey
 by Katherine Rollins

Joey put on his mask. He flapped his cape in front of the mirror. This is the best costume, he thought. I’m sure to win the contest. Joey skipped downstairs. “Here I come to rescue you!” Joey shouted. “Nice costume,” said Joey’s dad. “I’m a superhero,” said Joey. “Joey,” said Mom, “I need you to watch Mindy at the party.” Joey looked at his little sister. “But Mom, superheroes don’t have kid sisters.” “Well this superhero has a sister,” said Mom. “What will Mindy’s costume be?” asked Dad. “I’m not sure,” said Mom. Joey got an idea. “I know!” Joey took Mindy upstairs to his room. He dug through his closets. Joey found his baby blanket. He put it around Mindy’s shoulders. At the party, Superhero Joey and his sidekick Supergirl Mindy won first prize!

CHIC@S DE 402 AQUI LES DEJO UNA BREVE Y MUY PUNTUAL EXPLICACIÓN DE LA CLASE DE HOY, DE IGUAL MANERA MAÑANA VUELVO A EXPLICAR.

El uso de 'used to' en inglés

¿CUÁNDO USAMOS USED TO EN INGLÉS?
Usamos used to para hablar de hábitos, estados o acciones que se repetían con frecuencia en el pasado y que ya han dejado de ocurrir. Por ejemplo:

Hábito: I used to collect trading cards when I was a child (de niña solía coleccionar cromos)(=ahora ya no lo hago)
Estado: My friends used to be crazy about the Spice Girls (mis amigas estaban locas por las Spice Girls)
Acción: My teacher used to say "sit down and shut up" (mi profesor solía decir: "siéntate y cállate).

¿CÓMO SE FORMA?
Se usa la misma forma con todas las personas.

Afirmativas
I / You / He / She / It / We / They + used to + verbo
Ej:  I used to play football, he used to play football, we used to play football...

Negativas
I / You / He / She / It / We / They + didn't use to + verbo
Ej: I didn't use to play football, he didn't use to play football, we didn't use to play football...

Interrogativas
 Did + I / You / He / She / It / We / They + use to + verbo?
Ej: Did you use to smoke? (¿Solías fumar?)
What did you use to do? (¿Qué solías hacer?)

CUIDADO:
1. No olvidéis quitar la "d" de "used" en negativas e interrogativas.

2. No debemos confundir used to (seguido de infinitivo) con get used to be used to (seguidos de verbo acabado en -ing).

Used to +infitivo = solía (hábitos pasados)
get used to +ing = acostumbrase a
be used to +ing = estar acostumbrado a

I have just had a terrible weekend! On Saturday I was so tired that I slept all morning. When I woke up I had a head ache and my throat was sore. My body ached all over. My nose ran and I coughed a lot. My mother took my temperature but I did not have a fever.
My mother made me some soup for lunch and I ate it in bed. I drank some juice. I tried to read a book but Icouldn’t keep my eyes open. I lay in bed all afternoon. I drifted in and out of sleep. I drank more juice. I feltmiserable all afternoon. I didn’t want to do anything.
got out of bed at dinner time. My parents ordered pizza for dinner and I was able to eat some of it. I drank more juice! I felt a bit better after dinner so I stayed up. I snuggled under a blanket on the couch and watched some TV with my parents. I fell asleep in front of the TV.
